Why Every Plant Should Replace Glass Level Gauges with Magnetic Indicators

2026-09-10 Level Measurement

Glass Gauges Have Had Their Day

Sight glass level gauges have been standard equipment for over a century. They work... until they don't. A thermal shock cracks the glass. A gasket starts weeping. The liquid column discolours and you can't read it from three metres away. Every time you replace one, you need a process shutdown.

Magnetic Bypass Level Indicators

A magnetic bypass level indicator mounts on the outside of the tank. A float with a permanent magnet rides inside a sealed bypass chamber. As it moves, it flips bi-colour flags on the external scale, giving you a clear, continuous reading without glass, without electrical power, and without any process fluid leaking out.

Our Range

  • NT-MBY: Atmospheric and low-pressure tanks (water, chemicals, process vessels. Up to PN16 / 150°C.
  • NT-MBYEX: Hazardous areas (fuel, solvents, petrochemicals. ATEX/IECEx certified, PN40 / 200°C.
  • NT-MBYB: Boiler drums and high-pressure vessels, PN100 / 350°C, bi-colour indication.

What We Need to Quote

  • Centre-to-centre distance (C/C)
  • Flange standard and size (DIN, ANSI, JIS)
  • Operating pressure and temperature
  • Liquid specific gravity

Add-Ons

  • 4–20 mA transmitter for SCADA
  • Reed-switch level alarms
  • Steam jacket for viscous media

Every unit is pressure-tested and documented. ATEX/IECEx certificates included for Ex-rated models. Material certificates (EN 10204 3.1) available on request.
