How to Select the Right Electromagnetic Flow Meter for Your Application
Why Electromagnetic Flow Meters?
If you're measuring a conductive liquid in a closed pipe, an electromagnetic flow meter is almost certainly the best option. No moving parts, no pressure drop, no maintenance schedule. just a reliable reading, year after year.
We build every NT-VMF meter from DN3 to DN3000 at our facility in Turkey and calibrate each one on our TÜRKAK-accredited ISO/IEC 17025 rig with ±0.27% uncertainty. The calibration certificate is internationally recognised through EA and ILAC mutual recognition agreements, so there is no need to re-calibrate on arrival.
Pipe Size (DN)
The golden rule: keep flow velocity between 1 m/s and 5 m/s. Too slow and accuracy suffers. Too fast and you risk erosion of the liner.
- Raw water intake: DN200–DN1200
- Filter feed lines: DN150–DN600
- Chemical dosing: DN3–DN25 (miniature meters)
- Distribution mains: DN80–DN500
Liner Selection
The liner insulates the pipe wall from the liquid. Get it wrong and the meter fails within months.
- Hard rubber (ebonite): Raw water, wastewater, abrasion-resistant, DN50–DN3000
- PTFE: Clean water, chemicals, FDA-suitable, DN3–DN300
- PFA: Aggressive chemicals (ozone, chlorine dioxide)
- Polyurethane: Abrasive slurries (mining, sludge)
Electrode Material
- 316L stainless: Clean water, standard, economical
- Hastelloy C-276: Chlorinated water, seawater, chemicals
- Titanium: Desalination, strong oxidisers
- Tantalum: Concentrated acids (HCl, H₂SO₄)
Output & Communication
- 4–20 mA + HART: Universal PLC/SCADA compatibility
- RS485 Modbus RTU: Multi-meter digital networks
- Pulse output: Totaliser counting, batch control
